Dave Sherry has over two decades of experience in energy and environmental law as an attorney.  He served 21 years in the U.S. Coast Guard. He retired as a Commander and, in federal practice with the Coast Guard, Dave oversaw environmental civil penalty and criminal prosecution cases, regulation development, and administrative law matters as a recognized expert within the agency.

After retiring from the military, Dave worked as an attorney for the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) within the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.  As an attorney for PURA, he advised on electric, utility, and renewable energy regulation and policy development and represented the state during administrative hearings before PURA commissioners.  Dave brings this extensive utility regulatory experience to bear on clients’ challenges.  Outside government service, in civil practice, he litigated environmental cases in Connecticut state and federal court, and assisted clients with matters before the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

Dave also brings an impressive scientific and engineering background to the table when advising clients on complex issues.  He graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1997 with a degree in Marine and Environmental Sciences, served as a shipboard engineer in the Coast Guard, and has extensive pollution remediation experience from over two decades of field response work.  Of note, he led vessel decontamination efforts on-site for the entire Deepwater Horizon oil spill response in 2010.

Dave graduated from Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts, with a specialty in International Law in 2005. He earned his Master of Laws degree in Military Law, with a specialty in Administrative and Civil Law, from the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2013.  He is admitted to practice in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.
